Resumen

Los contaminantes ambientales representan una amenaza global para los organismos y la conservación de la biodiversidad en todo el mundo. Las aves marinas se distinguen de las demás aves por hacer uso tanto del ambiente terrestre como el marino, exponiéndose a una variedad de contaminantes. Debido a esto y su posición trófica, pueden acumular niveles elevados de contaminantes en sus tejidos, que pueden provocar efectos negativos en estos organismos y como consecuencia en sus poblaciones y ecosistemas. En consecuencia, es necesario relevar periódicamente las poblaciones naturales, conocer el estado de situación y generar análisis integrales que brinden información relevante para la conservación de estas especies. Los ambientes marinos costeros de Sudamérica no están exentos del impacto de contaminantes. Debido a que las aves marinas son consideradas buenas monitoras de la calidad ambiental, es importante conocer qué información nos brindan sobre la presencia de los contaminantes en estos ambientes. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de esta revisión sistemática es realizar un análisis integral del estado de conocimiento de los contaminantes orgánicos persistentes (plaguicidas organoclorados, bifenilos policlorados y polibromados), hidrocarburos aromáticos policíclicos, elementos traza y contaminantes emergentes (plásticos, fármacos, cuidado personal, plaguicidas de uso actual, entre otros) en las aves marinas de Sudamérica, identificando procesos de bioacumulación en las especies, posibles efectos asociados a la presencia de contaminantes y poblaciones más vulnerables. Se buscará identificar brechas de conocimiento en la región con el fin de fortalecer proyectos a futuro.
