Abstract

The relative composition of wintering Swainson's Hawk’s (Buteo swainsoni) diet is described based on the analysis of fresh pellets collected in NE La Pampa province, Argentina. Caterpillars (Lepidoptera larvae) constituted the predominant food item based on number of individuals while, in volume, both caterpillars and grasshoppers (Orthoptera) prevailed in the samples. Hawk’s diet versatility is discussed based on spatial and temporal differences in its composition.
