Magellanic Penguin
Abstract
During the breeding season 1970–1971, the author studied the breeding of Magellanic Penguin in a nesting colony at Janssen Bay, Tombo Point, Chubut (44°25'S and 65°33'24"W). Additional studies were made in the breeding season 1972–1973 and 1973–1974, in another nearby colony at Clara Point (43°53'S and 65°15'W). Data is given on pair formation, nesting, pairing behavior, laying and incubation, mortality, molt, migration and other behaviors. The diverse methods for field information included are: observations, drawings, ethogram schedules, adopting a displays code, photographs, circular censuses, square and linear transects, as well as marking with plastic collars, paint, tags and aluminium bands.
