El Hornero, Journal of Neotropical Ornithology
El Hornero is the national (Argentine) scientific journal on Neotropical ornithology. The Scientific Department of Aves Argentinas handles its biannual editing and publication. Its content is primarily aimed at the scientific ornithological community. It is the oldest ornithology journal in the Neotropics: since 1917, it has published original research findings and/or reviews on avian biology.
Types of Submissions
The journal accepts five types of submissions:
- Articles: Papers reporting novel research that form the main body of the journal.
- Short Communications: Similar to articles, but with preliminary or more limited findings and inferences, and of shorter length.
- Points of View: “Ideas and perspectives” or opinion pieces based on the literature on ornithology, policies, management, or other topics of immediate interest to ornithology.
- Bibliographical Reviews: Articles that provide a comprehensive evaluation of the literature on topics relevant to ornithology, synthesizing and contributing new knowledge on the subject at the continental or regional level. This includes systematic reviews and meta-analyses of the literature on topics of interest in ornithology.
- Methodologies and Supports in Research: Innovative articles on working methods, materials, tools, and software used in the study of birds, as well as instructional explanations or results from testing of lesser-known methods.
