Abstract

In this study we show that Hudson’s Canastero (Asthenes hudsoni) has two different calls emitted by the same individual. One of the calls is similar to those of other streak-backed Canasteros such as the Austral Canastero (Asthenes anthoides), the Puna Canastero (Asthenes sclateri), and the Streak-backed Canastero (Asthenes wyatti). It is necessary to study whether both sexes of Asthenes hudsoni emit both call types, what function these calls play and whether the other streak-backed canasteros also have both call types in their repertoires. Confusion with the two calls of Asthenes hudsoni could be the origin of the erroneous records of Asthenes anthoides for Buenos Aires Province.
