Avifauna of a pine forest of Río de los Sauces (Córdoba, Argentina)

Abstract

Avifauna of a pine forest of Río de los Sauces was studied. Fifty-eight species were identified and fourteen of them were nesting in the plantation. The identified bird species represent 46% of Calamuchita's valley bibliography recorded ones. Both faunal diversity and similarity of the different forest environments were estimated through Shannon index and "S" coefficient. The greater faunal diversity was related to the dense pine forest while the higher similarity value rate was observed by comparing this environment and the open pine forest. Stomachal contents of 26 species were analyzed. Among them, the insectivorous birds represented 58%, seed eaters 27%, granivorous 4% and 11% were omnivorous birds. Seasonal variation of individuals for the most common species was estimated.
