About the Journal

El Hornero is a scientific journal based in Argentina focusing on Neotropical ornithology. It is edited and published biannually by Aves Argentinas and primarily targets the scientific ornithological community. As the oldest ornithology journal in the Neotropics, El Hornero has published original research and review articles on bird biology since 1917.

El Hornero publishes contributions in five different sections:

  • Articles: Papers reporting novel research that forms the main body of the journal.
  • Short Communications: Similar to articles but present preliminary or more concise results and inferences in a shorter format.
  • Points of View: Opinion-based works, "ideas and perspectives," supported by literature on ornithology, policies, management, or other subjects of immediate interest to ornithology.
  • Bibliographical Reviews: Articles providing comprehensive evaluations of relevant ornithological topics, synthesizing and contributing new knowledge at continental or regional scales, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • Methodologies and Supports in Research: Innovative articles on research methods, materials, tools, and programs used in bird studies, including tutorials or testing results of lesser-known methods.
