Abstract
This paper is the result of field research on the Southern Lapwing (Vanellus chilensis) carried out at a study site in Las Reras, Province of Buenos Aires, during the breeding season 1983–1984. Alarm and brood defence displays and vocalizations are described and discussed. A "military display" seems to be territorial. Territory size was estimated by three methods.
