Abstract

Presence of Pitangus lictor outside its area: A Lesser Kiskadee, the distribution of which is northern Bolivia and central Brazil, according to known data, was seen at La Totora, Buenos Aires Province, on May 6, 1979. Three weeks later, this bird was captured by Juan Klimaitis. Its presence in Argentina is new, and it is a rare steppe that, although an insectivorous bird, was found so far south.Observation of a Common Dowitcher of the genus Limnodromus reinforces the already differing opinions about the presence of Limnodromus griseus and Limnodromus scolopaceus in Argentina. The only specimen taken so far in this country is a female of L. scolopaceus. Since it is almost difficult to separate the two species, much of the literature about their distribution in South America may be wrong. A Common Dowitcher was seen and photographed near Cape San Antonio, Buenos Aires Province, on December 6, 1977. Among the other specialists consulted was Dr. Frank A. Pitelka; he believes that it was a male of L. scolopaceus in its first autumn plumage. This would represent the second record of this species in the country. Discovery of Aphryza virgata in Argentine territory: It is not difficult to imagine that the Surfbird, which migrates from North America to the far south of Chile, could also reach the Argentine sector of Tierra del Fuego. This distribution was confirmed by the observation of an individual on the beaches near Ushuaia on February 19, 1978. This is the first record for Argentina
