La importante cuestión sobre la epidemiología de la Influenza aún no ha sido respondida, y la posible relación entre aves e influenza humana estimuló nuestro interés por investigar anticuerpos HAI, anticuerpos contra antígenos internos (RNP), y realizar intentos de aislamiento en huevos embrionados de gallina, a partir de aves de la isla Media Luna, Antártida Argentina. Se utilizaron quince antígenos. Se recolectaron 282 sueros y 96 hisopados traqueales y cloacales de diferentes especies de aves. Estos materiales fueron muestreados durante el período comprendido entre el 12 de diciembre de 1978 y el 30 de enero de 1979. No se detectaron anticuerpos HAI contra los antígenos estudiados. Tampoco se detectaron anticuerpos contra antígenos internos de los virus de Influenza tipo A y B. No se obtuvo aislamiento viral. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que no hubo evidencia, ni directa ni indirecta, de infección por virus de Influenza en las aves del área y durante el período estudiado.
